Jonathan Ames is a writer in Brooklyn with a drinking problem which struggles to live, which is trying to move on after a recent breakup with his now ex girlfriend by changing the way he lives life. With an impulse, Trying to emulate his idols, the novelists Dashiell Hammett and RAymond Chandler, he poses as a private detective and offers his services using the internet. Amazingly, he begin to receive a lot of cases from people that doesn’t know he isn’t a real private detective, with trial and fail he keeps solving cases or not.

This comedy is based on Jonathan Ames’ short story which has the very same name, and it’s included in his book The Double Life is Twice as Good: Essays and Fiction and in McSweeney’s Issue 24. The cable series also stars Ted Danson (Damages, Becker) as George Christopher, Jonathan’s magazine editor, and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) as Ray Hueston, Jonathan’s best pal.
